GREATER SEPIK COCOA OF EXCELLENCE & TRADE EXPO – DAY 1WEWAK, EAST SEPIK

The Greater Sepik Cocoa of Excellence & Trade Expo has officially opened today in Wewak, bringing together a powerful display of national unity as cocoa farmers and stakeholders from across Papua New Guinea gather in one place.
The opening ceremony set the tone for the event, with the presence of Georgina Roberts, alongside East Sepik Governor Allan Bird, Public Service Minister Joe Sungi, and Wewak MP Stanley Samban, marking the significance of the occasion.
What stood out most today was the strong participation from across the country, reflecting a united front in advancing Papua New Guinea’s cocoa industry. Farmers from all six districts of East Sepik, turned up in numbers, alongside participants from neighboring West Sepik.
Beyond the Sepik region, the Expo has drawn nationwide representation, with provinces including Western Highlands, Jiwaka, Sandaun, Milne Bay, Madang, Morobe, Chimbu, Central, and other cocoa-growing regions all taking part. The diversity of participation highlights how cocoa continues to connect rural communities across the country, cutting across geographical and cultural boundaries.
Throughout the day, the Expo grounds came alive with interaction, networking, and engagement between farmers, buyers, and industry players. The gathering itself reflects a shared commitment to improving cocoa quality, strengthening partnerships, and opening up market opportunities for local farmers.
As activities continue over the next two days, the focus remains clear, bringing Papua New Guinea together through cocoa, and ensuring that farmers from every corner of the country are part of that journey.
